There is a strong tradition of cancer research in Leeds. One notable example from the 1970s is Professor Craig Jordan’s University of Leeds PhD thesis on anti-oestrogens as potential therapeutic agents, which underpinned his development of Tamoxifen, the first breast cancer drug. Tamoxifen is now widely used in the treatment and prevention of breast cancer.
